Bhumi Pujan is an age-old Hindu rite de passage. It is performed (usually by a priest) prior to the commencement of any construction work.It is performed to invoke the blessings of Mother Earth and to sanctify the land for the commencement of the construction.

It is believed that this ritual wards off the ill effects of the negative energies and calls for the presence of positive energies so that the construction can be carried out smoothly and successfully.

The pujan is carried out by a knowledgeable priest at an the appropriate/auspicious time, with Vedic mantras, prayers and offerings made to various gods. It also assists in the fulfillment of Vastu principles, and in the bringing of harmony and balance in the area.
